Lit Quake San Francisco

Lit Quake came to town this last week. Meaning plenty of literary folk stormed the city, filling up any venue they could think of for readings, stories, and boozing. Mama Eaton drove up Monday night for the Porchlight Storytelling Event (like the Moth for you New Yorkers) and we ended up waiting in the cold for an intense 45 minutes. One dapper grey-bearded fellow got fed up and yelled at the bouncer, "You moron! This is a lit-ry event!!"

It was well worth it because inside:

Our hero Sean Wilsey (author of "Oh The Glory of it All") talked about blowing a potential screenwriting career because he always spelled "lose" as "loose." Hunter Thompson's assistant told some Dr. Gonzo nuttiness. And a young fellow told a very debaucherous tale of seducing the old geezer, William Burroughs, into bed.

Mama Eaton said it felt so "big city" and that it reminded her she's from a relatively small po-dunk town.
